Usually in India the height of ceiling is 9ft. When the wardrobe is built its height is of 7ft. Rest of the height i.e.of 2ft is occupied by Loft.
If the height of wardrobe is going to be 7ft then plywood is the best material to be used. But if the height of the wardrobe is more than 7ft then ‘Block Board’ is the best choice. The reason behind it is – Plywood has the tendency to bend in the middle if its used in applications which require wood to be of more than 7ft. This is the reasons interior designer choose ‘Block Boards’ while making wardrobes doors.
Which is stronger Plywood or Block Board?
If we compare the strength, Plywood is stronger than Block Board. If you see the transverse section of Block Board, block boards are made up of blocks of softwoood and are then covered with thin plywood on all the sides. But Block Boards are strong enough for its role of a ‘Door’ in the wardrobe.
When to use plywood and when to use Block Board?
If the height of the wardrobe is 7ft or more then Block Board along with plywood of variuos thickness are used.
If the height of the wardrobe is less than 7ft then plywood of various thickness are used.
When the wardrobe is built, layman will expect the plywood of the wardrobe to be of 18mm or above. But its not like that. Wardrobe is built with plywood of various thickness. Thickness of plywood used in Wardrobe are as below:
For making wardrobes Commercial plywood of MR(Moisture Resistant) grade plywood is used. For kitchen furniture plywood of BWP/BWR grade is used. Please know more about these grades please read our blogs below:
